Train Avenue Parkway:

Redeveloping the Western Section of Train Avenue

STUDY AREA:

Ø      Bounded by West 65th Street, Clark Avenue, the railroad tracks to the North of Train Avenue and West 44th Street.

Ø      Proposed initial developments include 93 parcels and approximately 21 acres of land.

KEY CONCEPTS AND PLANS:

Ø      Redevelop Train Avenue as a parkway, which includes a bikeway that connects the surrounding communities to each other, the Cuyahoga Valley and the Ohio and Erie Towpath Trail.

Ø      The bikeway would have a trailhead at West 65th Street and would run along Train Avenue and connect in with the Towpath Trail via Scranton Road.

Ø      This initial development will build off the community assets that already exist and act as a catalyst for redevelopment efforts along the Train Avenue Corridor.

Ø      The proposed projects should create some type of critical mass that can actually spur residential and commercial development.

Ø      Proposed developments include: adaptive re-use at Clark Avenue and West 61st, U-Haul, and Train Avenue and West 47th Street; new housing developments along the south side of Train Avenue; an Expanded Train Avenue Park; introduction of a Green Industry Complex between West 61st and West 56th Streets along Clark Avenue; and various beautification projects.

GOALS:

Ø      These projects will draw people into the area, improve safety, build community pride, provide new housing options, strengthen commercial corridors and improve the quality of life of the residents in the surrounding communities.
