Additional Working Topics

The following files are a list of resources used in the evaluation of the three scenarios.

Weighted Matrix
In order to compare the three scenarios, we developed a matrix that evaluated several impact factors. We chose nine aspects of a regional land use plan that were associated with quality of life. These factors were:

  • Coordinated Land Use Plan – A measure directly related to regional land use planning.
  • Community Serviced by a Recreation Center – A measure of to city services and/or duplication of services.
  • Percent of Acres on Septic – A measure of low-density development and sprawl.
  • Income Tax Rates – A measure relating to provision of services and public finance.
  • Property Tax Rates – A measure of the amount of taxes residents are required to pay.
  • Public Transportation – A measure of how many people used public transportation to commute to work
  • Acres of Park Land – A measure of access to open space.
  • Drive to work – A measure of how many people drove to work.
  • Neighborhood Quality – A measure of overall quality of life.

Each of these nine factors were assigned a given weight relating directly to survey responses received from residents and public officials within the study area. We calculated values for each impact factor per scenario, and compared their rankings to determine which option would be most beneficial for the study area.
