ABOUT THE CENTER

Established in February 2018, Cleveland State University’s Center for Public & Nonprofit Management integrates several functions within the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs – connecting professional development, student enrichment, and faculty engagement in the areas of leadership development, management training, technical assistance, and research for the public and nonprofit sectors in Northeast Ohio.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY'S DONATION DRIVE
Lending a Helping Hand to Those Experiencing Homelessness
The 29th Leadership Academy class is collecting donations for people experiencing homelessness in the Greater Cleveland area. The public donation sites will reopen when the University resumes in-person classes.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
As of 2019, Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs now serves as the official Certified Public Manager® (CPM) program in the state of Ohio. The Certified Public Manager® (CPM) program is a comprehensive and nationally certified development program for state and local government leaders. OCPM incorporates innovative management and leadership tools and techniques equipping and empowering public service leaders to enact positive organizational change.

To receive the CPM credential, participants must enroll in and successfully complete the Public Management Academy and Leadership Academy.

The formula to receive the nationally recognized credential is as follows:
Public Management Academy + Leadership Academy =
Ohio Certified Public Manager® Program

Upon successful completion of each academy, participants will receive a certificate. Once a participant receives both certificates, he/she is eligible for the CPM credential. As an additional service, participants in the OCPM Program may now earn academic credit that can be applied toward any undergraduate or graduate degree at the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs.
For more information about the Ohio CPM program, contact Rob Ziol at r.ziol@csuohio.edu.

2019-2020 MENTORING PROGRAM
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENT
Some of our Mentoring Program students gathered at Across the Lines (ATL) Art Studio on Thursday, January 30th for the program's new community engagement project. The evening integrated the arts, community development, and nonprofit work. Students engaged in conversation and creativity, hearing from Jane Finley (artist & founder of ATL), Sheila Locatelli (founder & executive director of Women of Hope), and Rachel Oscar (Director of Programming & Community Engagement at Campus District, Inc. and Levin MUPD alumna).

For the second part of the evening, students created individual pieces of artwork on mini-canvases. The canvases will form a collage that'll be displayed at "Ariya's House", which is operated through Women of Hope
Thank you to Jane Finley (Across the Lines), Rachel Oscar (Campus District), and Sheila Locatelli (Women of Hope) for making this project possible!

THE WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP SERIES
Due to the current situation, the "Share Your Story" event originally scheduled for March 25th is now on September 23rd. Additionally, the "Mastering the Art of Public Speaking Workshop", originally scheduled for May, is now postponed until Fall 2020.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Women's Leadership Series (Women Empowering Women) officially launched in October 2018 under CPNM and the Ohio Center for the Advancement of Women in Public Service.

After serving in the Ohio Senate for over 16 years, Senator Grace L. Drake founded the Ohio Center for the Advancement of Women in Public Service in 2001 at the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs. Senator Drake established the Center in hopes of inspiring more women to pursue public sector careers.

The Women's Leadership Series was created to engage and empower public and nonprofit sector leaders throughout Northeast Ohio, while promoting the concept of gender representation at all levels of leadership. The theme - "Women Empowering Women"- hones in on the notion that women should support, empower, and mentor one another. The series' programming is strategically designed to capitalize on this theme of empowerment within sectors where political pressures are at play, resources remain tight, and the competition to rise to executive leadership endures.
Thank you to the Wenk Family Charitable Foundation

for awarding additional funds to sponsor

this series for 2020!

INTERNSHIP SUCCESS STORIES
DIVELY FELLOW PROFILE SERIES
In an effort to promote community development and neighborhood revitalization, the George S. Dively Award for Corporate Leadership in Urban Development has been given to three local organizations, enabling each to host a paid intern – or Dively Fellow – for the 2019-2020 academic year.

These fellows are academically high-achieving Levin College students with a strong commitment to urban issues. Fellows will continue to work at their placement sites until the end of the Spring 2020 semester, completing a community development and neighborhood revitalization project designated by their host site. Additionally, the fellows actively participate in the Center for Public & Nonprofit Management's professional development and student enrichment programs.
