Designation could mean millions for local industry (Columbus CEO, May 2014)
The Cincinnati and Dayton area's first partnership on an economic development project yielded a big win, local leaders said Wednesday after learning southwest Ohio was one of 12 regions nationally to win a coveted "manufacturing communities" designation. $523+ million need to turn young Ohio companies into an economic force (The Plain Dealer, May 28, 2014) These figures are based on responses from groups that provide financial backing and other support to newer entrepreneurial ventures. The respondents included capital funds, business accelerators and angel investment groups. The 28 groups were surveyed between April 16 and May 16, and provided information about the capital needs of the 176 companies with which they had relationships.
Ohio grape and wine businesses contribute millions to Ohio economy (Ohio Country Journal, May 28, 2014)The Ohio wine and grape industry released its 2012 Economic Impact report, which finds that Ohio's grape and wine industry has a significant impact of $786 million on the state's economy, a 34% increase from the 2008 economic study released in 2010.

Editorial: More millions (Akron Beacon Journal, May 31, 2014) Keith Faber believes that state lawmakers didn't do enough to aid small businesses in the most recent two-year state budget. The Senate president pushed to include in the mid-biennium review a provision that would increase for next year the income-tax deduction for businesses from 50 percent on annual income up to $250,000 to 75 percent. He described the measure to the Columbus Dispatch as "solid and targeted" to create jobs and expand the state economy. "Now that the finance system has started working again, loans have become available, so we have a backlog of projects."
