>>Levin Professor Featured in CSU Research Newsletter 

The Cleveland State University Office of Research November newsletter features Levin College faculty member Dr. Clayton Wukich, Associate Professor and Director of the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. He came to Levin in 2017 after earning his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh and teaching at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. His research interests include digital government and social networks. One of Dr. Wukich's current projects examines the role of social media in empowering communication between cities and residents across three states during Hurricane Florence.

>>Levin College Professor Participates in Workshop at National Trust for Historic Preservation Conference


Earlier this month, Levin College Professor Stephanie Ryberg-Webster participated in a workshop on Affordability and Risk of Displacement in Historically African-American Neighborhoods, held in conjunction with the National Trust for Historic Preservation's annual PastForward conference in San Francisco. Dr. Ryberg-Webster has been serving as an expert advisor to the project since February. The final report and policy recommendations are expected in early 2019.

Andrew Thomas, Executive-in-Residence at the Levin College Energy Policy Center, shares that a new shale investment report is available on the Levin College Engaged Scholarship webpage. The report presents findings from an investigation into shale-related investment in Ohio. The investment estimates are cumulative from July through December of 2017.

>>Levin Professors Represent the College with Planning Sector Organizations

Stephanie Ryberg-Webster, Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and Program Director - Master of Urban Planning & Development, has been selected as an at-large member of the Executive Committee for the Cleveland Section of the Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association. Her term starts in January 2019.

Tom Hilde, Assistant Professor of Urban Studies at Levin College, will represent the College's Master of Urban Planning Degree program on the American Planning Association's Ohio Chapter board. His term starts in January 2019.

>>Author Bruce Katz Leads Discussion with Students from the Levin College and Ahuja College of Business

Prior to the recent CSU Real Estate Conference, keynote speaker Bruce Katz, co-author of the book "The New Localism," met with students from the Levin College and the Monte Ahuja College of Business to discuss his book. Several local business leaders also attended the discussion.

Dennis Keating, Emeritus Professor of Urban Studies at the Levin College, has published a book review of "The one-way street of integration: Fair housing and the pursuit of racial justice in American cities" on the Journal of Public Affairs website

>>Levin College Researcher Serves on Panel at Philanthropy Ohio Conference in Columbus 

Molly Schnoke, Project Manager in the Levin College Center for Community Planning & Development, recently served as a panelist at Philanthropy Ohio's Philanthropy Forward '18 conference on the topic of Program Related Investments (PRIs). During the session, panelists discussed how foundations use PRIs to create social impact, going beyond grantmaking to help achieve program goals, cultivate partnerships, catalyze equitable investment, and fulfill charitable missions.

Congratulations to Ben McKeeman (MUPDD, 2013), who recently earned his AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification. Ben is a Planner / GIS Specialist with Environmental Design Group in Akron. 
UPCOMING LEVIN COLLEGE EVENTS 

>>Levin College Co-Sponsoring Upcoming Holiday Event 

Cleveland State University will host its annual pre-Kwanzaa celebration, the Kuumba Arts Festival, on Saturday, December 8, 2018. This year's event, entitled "Shake Spear, Urban," will feature a special tribute to the African Grove Theater, which operated in New York City in the 1820's and was one of the first arts institutions in the U.S. dedicated to presenting Shakespearean productions to Black audiences. The festival is cosponsored by CSU's Black Studies Program and the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs.

The event will be held at 6:00 pm in the Roberta Steinbacher Atrium at the Levin College. The festivities are free and open to the public but tickets are required and can be obtained at the Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center, located on campus in Berkman Hall, Room 137.

Come join the Levin College Center for Public and Nonprofit Management for an evening of networking with public and nonprofit professionals! 
 
This event is part of a leadership series co-sponsored by the Ohio Center for the Advancement of Women in Public Service and the Center for Public and Nonprofit Management. Tickets for this event are $20. The ticket includes admission and heavy appetizers. Online registration and payment is required by December 1st.
