This website, and the materials contained within it, are the outgrowth of a graduate course intended for Master of Urban Planning, Design, and Development students in their last year of study. The goal of the course was not to impart any new planning tools (with a few exceptions where gaps existed), but to provide students with an opportunity to work on a synthesis of their knowledge through an application of their planning skills to an actual project in a studio environment. The class focused on various aspects of Burke Lakefront Airport, on the city of Cleveland's waterfront. The class met with the "client", the Cleveland City Planning Commission, early in the semester.

Guest lecturers included CSU faculty and outside planners and practitioners. Students were assigned to groups, and they also carried out specific individual tasks over the semester. Robert Simons, who taught the course, acted as project coordinator. The course was held in a semi-dedicated conference room where we stored materials, used computers on the college network, and held group meetings and work sessions.
