Land Use Planning

Lakefront Revitalization Plan: Bringing the Lakefront Home… generates an idea on how to best reshape Cleveland’s Lakefront and improve access between the shoreline and the adjacent neighborhoods. This plan creates an overall vision in three phases on how to best shape the lakefront as the most vital element in the transformation of Cleveland as a place to live, work, and play and aims at enhancing Northeast Ohio’s overall regional competitiveness.

Phase I begins with updating the current lakefront land use plan.  An analysis is performed on the lakefront ward maps to identify potential roadway connectors to the lakefront, as well as, future development opportunities that will meet the objective of providing green space to residents within ½ mile of their home.

Phase II marks the start of Lakefront capital improvement projects and economic generators, which aim to increase Lakefront accessibility for all Cleveland residents.  An updated land use map is presented that includes Phase II projects as they relate to Phase I research and development.  Recommended projects range from the establishment of an entertainment district to boating docks and boardwalks.

Phase III expands on the capital improvements introduced in Phases I and II. An updated land use map is presented that includes the Phase III projects and presents a comparative view of the evolution from the first two phases. The theme of connecting the Lakefront is continued. Projects within Phase III range from co-operative housing to ferry and tour boat attractions and represent a long term approach of sustainable growth along the Lakefront.
